Plantar warts are mostly endophytic and show multiple deep extensions of acanthotic epidermis around a central parakeratotic plug. Koilocytes are prominent in the upper layers of epidermis.

Plantar warts usually regress in children but may persist in adults. A rare complication is development of verrucous carcinoma (carcinoma cuniculatum).
