Comments:
HODGKIN CELLS: Neoplastic cells that otherwise resemble Reed-Sternberg cells but lack multilobated nucleus and appear mononuclear have been termed Hodgkin cells. The can predominate in some cases of classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL).

Mimics of Hodgkin & Reed-Sternberg (HRS) Cells: A number of other cell types can mimic HRS cells, including megakaryocytes (positive for factor VIII-related antigen, CD61), pleomorphic immunoblasts of infectious mononucleosis and other viral infections, anaplastic cells of some carcinomas and sarcomas, and HRS-like cells seen in some non-Hodgkin lymphomas.

It is important to consider the background in which HRS-like cells are present. The diagnosis of cHL should no longer be made on morphology alone and must be confirmed by demonstrating the characteristic immunophenotype of neoplastic HRS cells (CD30+, CD15+, CD45-, and variable expression of lineage-specific lymphoid markers).
