Comments:
Majority of the ovarian cancers associated with BRCA mutations are high-grade serous type. Other histologic types are sometimes seen in these patients.

In contrast to the classic sporadic high-grade serous carcinomas, the BRCA-associated cases are more likely to show a combination of certain clinical and histologic features as follows: younger age, undifferentiated foci, solid/endometrioid/transitional growth patterns, lower frequency of papillary/micropapillary areas, lower frequency of serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma, numerous tumor infiltrating lymphocytes, very high mitotic rate, and extensive comedonecrosis.
