Steroid Cell Tumor, NOS : Microscopic
Comments:
The microscopic appearance of ovarian steroid cell tumors is suggestive of steroid hormone synthesis. This refers to the presence of abundant eosinophilic or finely vacuolated cytoplasm (seen here) that is rich in lipids, as confirmed by staining with Oil Red O on frozen sections. With transmission electron microscopy, these cells show well-developed smooth endoplasmic reticulum and numerous mitochondria with tubulovesicular cristae.
