Serous borderline tumors (SBT) are not linked to BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations. About 50% of cases contain somatic mutations in KRAS and BRAF genes.

The image shows a SBT with a complex pattern of proliferating glands and papillae. The glands may invaginate into the stroma and simulate the appearance of invasion when sectioned tangentially (pseudoinvasion).
