Comments:
Poorly-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma undermining the intact mucosa above. Lymph node metastases occur commonly and are related to the stage of the tumor. Mortality is related to the completeness of resection during surgery. Five year survival rate for Stage T1 squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus is worse than that for T1 adenocarcinoma (59.2% vs 82.5%).
