Carcinoid in Bronchial Lumen

slide 47 of 92

Comments:
About two-thirds of lung carcinoids are located centrally near a major airway such as main stem or lobar bronchus. An endobronchial component is frequently present and such tumors are likely to present with hemoptysis, obstructive pneumonia (due to occlusion of bronchial lumen as seen in this image), lung abscess, and bronchiectasis. The peripherally located carcinoids (one-third of cases) are likely to remain silent clinically and are often discovered incidentally.
