All forms of Burkitt lymphoma show translocations involving the MYC gene on chromosome 8. The resulting increase in MYC protein levels promotes cell cycle progression and proliferation. Burkitt lymphoma is considered to be the most rapidly proliferating human tumor. The Ki-67 proliferation index is often greater than 95% as shown in this image.
