Comments:
Variant Histologic Features: Departure from the usual histologic features may be seen in some cases of squamous cell carcinoma of lung. These variations include: oncocytic appearance (due to increased number of mitochondria), foreign body giant cell reaction to keratin, palisaded granulomas, prominent inflammatory infiltrate, clear cell appearance (due to glycogen content; seen in many cells in this image), and papillary growth pattern (especially in the endobronchial component; well-formed papillary fronds, no stromal invasion, no necrosis).
