Comments:
The background inflammation in Rosai-Dorfman disease consists of lymphocytes and, as seen here, plasma cells. The characteristic histiocytes are positive for S-100 protein and CD68 but negative for CD1a (an important distinguishing feature from Langerhans cell histiocytosis in which the cells are positive for CD1a).
