Microscopic Features: Metanephric adenoma is a highly cellular tumor composed of embryonal epithelial cells arranged in tightly packed small tubules separated by scant acellular hyalinized or edematous stroma. The tubules often have abortive or small pin-point lumina.

One-third of cases show abundant hyalinized stroma separating the tubules. The primitive appearing tubules resemble developing metanephric tubular epithelium as well as tubules of Wilms tumor.
