Hamartoma of Spleen

slide 1 of 4

Comments:
A tumor-like mass of disorganized but mature tissue indigenous to the particular site is called a hamartoma. Splenic hamartoma is composed exclusively of red pulp elements. It lacks follicles or fibrous trabeculae. In the specimen photograph, note the normal spleen to the right. Image courtesy of: Ed Uthman, MD, Houston, Texas. Used with permission.
