Sacrococcygeal Teratoma

slide 1 of 4

Comments:
Mature teratoma is the most common type of germ cell tumor presenting in the sacrococcygeal region of neonates and infants. Vast majority of the patients are female. The tumors are usually bulky and consist of solid and multilocular cystic areas as seen in this image. They are composed of mature tissues and cured by total excision. The presence of immature elements increases the risk of recurrence and metastasis. Image courtesy of Dr. Jean-Christophe Fournet, Paris, France; humpath.com; Used with permission
