Ovary : Small Cell Carcinoma

Topic: Other Rare Primary Ovarian Tumors

Category: Ovary

slide 4 of 10

Comments:
This is an example of pulmonary-type small cell carcinoma of the ovary which resembles its lung counterpart in all aspects. It may arise as a pure tumor or mixed with one of the surface epithelial adenocarcinomas. Immunoreactivity for keratin, NSE, CD57, and chromogranin may be present. The prognosis is poor. Large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas have also been described in the ovaries.   return to Other Rare Primary Ovarian Tumors
