Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans

Topic: Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans

Category: Fibrohistiocytic

slide 2 of 11

Comments:
The cut surface is tan-grey. The overlying epidermis appears stretched. The deeper aspects of the tumor infiltrate into the subcutaneous fat. This accounts for a recurrence rate of almost 50% with conservative excision. It drops down to about 20% with wide local excision. Mohs' surgery has been used in some cases to reduce recurrences. Rare cases metastasize to lungs or lymph nodes usually after multiple recurrences.   return to Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans
