Small Cell Carcinoma : Gross

slide 1 of 12

Comments:
Photograph of a lobectomy specimen showing a subpleural nodule of small cell carcinoma. Small cell carcinoma may arise in the periphery or near the major bronchi; the current case arose in the subpleura. Unlike adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, there is no known preinvasive phase of small cell carcinoma. This is the most aggressive of all lung tumors and it is incurable with surgical removal alone.
