Small Cell Carcinoma : Thymus

Topic: Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Mediastinum

Category: Mediastinum

Comments:
Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the thymus is histologically identical to that seen in the lung. Therefore, mediastinal metastases from a pulmonary tumor must be ruled out before making the diagnosis of a primary small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the thymus. The tumor cells show scant cytoplasm, increased mitotic activity, numerous apoptotic bodies, finely granular chromatin, and inconspicuous nucleoli.   return to Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Mediastinum
