Enchondromas : Maffucci Syndrome

Topic: Chondroma

Category: Bone Tumors - I

slide 5 of 6

Comments:
When multiple enchondromas are associated with soft-tissue hemangiomas, it is referred to as Maffucci syndrome. The photograph shows enchondroma arising in the small bones of hand. It is composed of bluish, semi-translucent hyaline cartilage. The contour of the bone shows bulging but the cortex is not breached and there is no extension into the soft tissues.
