Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma : Signet Ring Type

Topic: Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma

Category: Breast Carcinomas

slide 7 of 10

Comments:
Many cases of infiltrating lobular carcinoma have conspicuous intracytoplasmic lumina in the tumor cells. With mucicarmine and alcian blue stain, mucin can be demonstrated in these lumina. Note the transition from classic infiltrating lobular carcinoma to signet-ring morphology in this image. Majority of the so-called signet-ring cell carcinomas of the breast are variants of lobular carcinoma.   return to Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma
