Hashimoto Thyroiditis - Fibrous Variant

About 10-12% of cases of Hashimoto thyroiditis show severe thyroid follicular atrophy and prominent hyaline fibrosis, the so-called fibrous variant. The fibrosis is confined to the gland and does not extend beyond it (in contrast to that seen in Riedel thyroiditis).
