Lung cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in both men and women (not including skin cancer). In men, prostate cancer is more common, and in women breast cancer is more common. It makes up approximately 13.3% of all new cancers diagnosed in the US. Source : National Cancer Institute website. American Cancer Society estimates for lung cancer in the United States for 2017 are: 222,500 new cases resulting in 155,870 deaths.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women, accounting for 26.5% of all cancer deaths in the US. More people die from lung cancer each year than colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.
