Comments:
Note the dense eosinophilic cytoplasm and eccentrically displaced nucleus. Gemistocytes are frequently found in other fibrillary astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas. Some authors require at least 20% of tumor cells to be gemistocytic before using the designation of gemistocytic astrocytoma. This tumor appears to be composed of an almost pure population of gemistocytic cells.
