Comments:
Yolk Sac Tumor - Cellular Features: The tumor cells are primitive-appearing, flat to cuboidal to columnar in shape, with abundant clear cytoplasm, large hyperchromatic nuclei, and prominent nucleoli. Mitotic activity is increased. Beta-hCG positive syncytiotrophoblastic cells may be present. The stroma of YST can be loose, hypocellular and myxoid to more compact spindle cell with a primitive appearance. About 25% of cases show stromal luteinization and these patients may develop virilization.
