Comments:
Mycobacterium avium complex infection of the liver in an immunocompromised (HIV+) patient. Discrete, non-necrotic, variably-sized nodular aggregates of sinusoidal histiocytes are present throughout the liver parenchyma. Multinucleated giant cells are rarely seen. With Ziehl-Neelsen staining, the histiocytic nodules are full of acid-fast bacilli.
